RAID vs rsync

I've looked at the Software RAID HOWTO, but didn't see this topic discussed ...

I have a Slackware 9.1 box with two 80Gb IDE drives. Both have the same partition numbers and sizes set up on them. Slackware is installed on the first drive, the second drive is currently empty.

Can I make my two drives a RAID1 array now, after the install? I don't necessarily want to know how, just whether it is even possible.

If not, how/where do I set up a RAID device on Slackware during installation? I don't remember seeing any options for that.

If RAID can't be set up after installation (or proved to be unreliable), can I just mirror the entire first disk to the second disk using rsync and a cronjob, and then (if the first disk dies) boot off the second disk somehow, or use a bootdisk and set lilo to use the second disk on subsequent boots?

Thanks
Mick

The quick answer is: it is possible to setup a
RAID device after install.

And no, there is no RAID option during the
normal installation, and I don't think that any
of the boot/root-disks offer a software RAID.

Cheers,
Tink
