Radeon 9800 PRO slows down with opengl in slackware 9.1

Ok everyone,

I will start out with this sentence. I LOVE MY SLACKWARE LINUX!!!. Now that I got that out, I have an ATI radeon 9800 pro all in wonder, and I have installed slackware 9.1 and i installed the fglrx drivers for my card and configured them to the best of my knowledge. it runs fine as far as kde and 2d stuff goes, and it plays videos perfectly, but when in opengl applications it slows down badly, I ran glgears and it ran at 100+fps and then i did full screen glgears and it was slow like 10 fps, and i tried some opengl linux screesavers and it did the same, so somehow something isnt right with opengl stuff, I dont know about direct3d (does linux use direct3d with some stuff?) so if anyone can help in anyways its greatly appreciated, ive made a few posts about some other things but this is a different pc heh. here are my specs.

ASUS A7N8X DELUXE MOBO REV 2.00
256 X 2 DUAL CHANNELED MEMORY PC3200
60 GB MAXTOR HD
500 WATT PSU
ATI RADEON 9800 PRO ALL IN WONDER 128 MB
ONBOARD SOUND AND LAN.

Thanks.

Toolfan.

glxgears on 100+ fps? It is very slow for modern hardware. glxgears gives several thousand frames per second when the acceleration is enabled and properly working so this probably means that in your case only the CPU is rendering frames. Try to install some drivers. i don't have ATI cards so I can't help you with this but do a search and you will find what you need. And for the Direct3D it is a Micro$oft API and normally none of the Linux apps use it.

How did you fixed the problem? What was it?
Maybe this could help someone else, like for example me if I ever buy an ATI video card.

Ah, Your right I forgot to say how I fixed it hehe, I had a very nice person from this forum help me, we upgrade my kernel to 2.6.6 and compiled it (id be lost without his help!) and then I edited xorg.conf and told it to not use the ati gart driver I believe it was, and when I get to the command line before booting to a gui I type this to open up nvidias agp gart (nforce 2 motherboard!):

modprobe nvidia-agp

and it runs perfectly after doing that, so ya just update kernel and run nvidia-agp before booting into a gui and make sure to tell xorg.conf to not use the agp gart from ati!

Thanks Chilipepah!!!!
