Problem installing Slackware 11 in intel D915GAV mb
Hi guyz i had built my system with Intel D915GAV mb Pentium 4 2.8GHZ HT cpu, 1.25 GB DDR Ram, 160 GB Seagate sata HDD, 40 GB Samsung HDD(for linux), Nvidia Geforce 7600GT dual DVI Graphics card, Pinnacle pctv stereo pci tuner card, 15" samsung sync master monitor. i tried installing slack 11 and every thing went smooth and i installed lilo to super block with link to dual boot windows xp on my hd1(160GB). but after installation the boot screen is blank and there is nothing except the cursor blinking on top of the screen, i even tried to install lilo to mbr but the same result. somebody help me to install slack on my system i really want to give it a try. i tried installing with huge26.s kernel as i want to use my tuner and mobile gprs modem in usb and udev option.
Let's try the slower way...
1. disconnect the 160GB for a while (primary master)
2. Try to boot (yust for fun..)
3. re-install Slack to the 40GB (secondary master)
4. install lilo (in setup) to mbr (/dev/hdc)
5. test if it works
6. once got it working, plug the other drive back
7. let BIOS boot from the first (160GB) drive
8. You got XP right?
9. during reboot hit the key for boot-options (lookup the MoBo manual)
10. choose the other drive to boot from (SAMSUNG)
11. Lilo should work now too.
Once You got more familiar with BIOS-drive remmaping, drive naming in Linux and forth, reinstall Slackware again with lilo's MBR on the 160GB and make a link to XP in lilo's menu...
My guess is that You got confused with naming of the drives a bit?
at last installed slack 11 in my system buy mounting lilo to mbr, but how to setup x-server to auto start when linux starts, my mouse is not working when i started x server using xinit command. i have a logitec ps2 mouse connected to ps2 port and had selected ps2 mouse option during installation.
Yo have two ways to go to X upon boot:
1
edit the /etc/inittab
2
add an entry to /etc/lilo.conf for the kernel (behind the root=??? ro) just add 4 (nuber four)
before that run xorgconf and answer all questions...
