opinions please -- slackware-current

hi all,

i find myself getting to be used to the ins and outs of slackware... not nearly a pro, but i can get around now. anyways, i'd like to clean up my distro cause i did a full install and now i have more of a feel for what i'd like installed and also i installed some software a little all over the place while trying to figure out how things work. so what i'd like to do is a fresh install. i've backed up my etc directory, my home is on a different partition -- so no issues there. i guess my actual question is, should i install slackware-current or 10??? is current stable enough? i am currently running slack 10 with no upgrades except a few softwares like mysql, php, apache, etc.

any thoughts or opinions are greatly welcome here.

thanks,
drisay.

If you stay with slack10 for stability, be sure to upgrade the packages in the patches directory:

http://www.slackware.com/pb/browse.p...tches/packages

for any security updates.

Just my $.02

i think that may have been the answer i was looking for.

so if i simply upgrade what is under patches, then that should be stable. otherwise, current could be unstable correct?

That is my understanding.

If you want to try really bleeding edge, check out the testing directory.

I've been using Slack current since I started using Slack. I can recall one or two issues with KDE but hardly anything that I'd call "unstable".

Slack current still used the 2.4 kernel.

My point is, it's still Slackware, it's going to be included in 10.1 and it's Pat releasing it so it's still pretty conservative.

This is just for my desktop at home though. For deployed uses I'd probably stick to 10 to be safe.

As the above msg states 'current' is fine and more then stable for home use. I would imagine testing is fine too, just don't use for 'mission critical' servers at the office.. as they say.. But current is what I have and still use and never had any problems.
