Number of partitions needed for Slackware 12

Hi

I've been using Linux for three or four years now - currently Pclinuxos 2007, and before that Mandriva. Yes - I'm mainly a GUI user after migrating from Windows. I have used Vectorlinux on older hardware and really love its speed, and have had various other distros, including Debian installed on old machine.

I'm thinking of attempting Slackware and have begun reading about it, after always feeling daunted by its bad press as being difficult to install and use (unless having a good Linux knowledge).

In this document - http://www.linuxquestions.org/linux/...x_step_by_step

I can only see reference to two partitions - swap and another. Is that all I need? Or does the Slack installer make the other partitions ie / and /home, and any others required?

Many thanks

Two partitions is all you need. If you want to use more, that is up to you. Slackware, IIRC, does not have an autopartition option in the installer like some other distros. That would be sort of anti-Slackware. You'll have to create your partitions manually.

Minimum (in typical cases) is 2 partitions: swap + root.

You can have as many as you want, tho, you decide.

Also, take a look at some of the links in my sig, they may help you with the install process.
