Not Recognizing Optical Drive
So here's a conundrum...
I'm currently trying to install Slackware 12.1 via DVD to my TOSHIBA Satellite L305-S5875 laptop and on start-up the disk runs and I get prompted for any specific boot info. Since I have a SATA HDD I put boot: hugesmp.s hda=noprobe I was then also able to partition my HDD into a main Linux partition (197GB) and a Linux Swap partition (3GB to match RAM). I then loaded pcmcia and entered setup. In setup I was able to activate my Swap partition and format my main partition as ext3. All well and good. I then select install from CD/DVD. This is where the problem comes in... Even though I am running Linux of the disk as I'm doing this, Linux cannot find the disk drive in order to install Slackware 12.1... Ideas? Anything would be much appreciated :D |
The CD/DVD drive is commonly /dev/hdc, I am not sure how well slackware will detect a drive if it is sata.
You might try passing /dev/sdc or /dev/sdb |
Hi,
You can set the CDROM/DVD as primary master with Slackware. I've done it many times. You should be able to setup the ide hdd or cdrom/dvd to any channel setting an still install Slackware as long as the devices are identified properly by the kernel. As for the SATA hdd and the cdrom/dvd ide device then the possible error could be with the libata or a driver conflict. |
