No floppy drive

I've tried and tested most mainstream linux distros (red hat 9, fedora 3, mandrake 10, mandriva 2005, ubuntu, debian, gentoo, suse9.4) and have not found one i like yet.
I would like to use slackware but, unfortunatly, like many new computers, my box doesnt have any floppy drives, and $70 for an external one is a bit too much. Looking at the slackware site, i have read that the intallation requires a floppy. Is this required or recommended? Are there any ways to go around this?

thanks in advance

Slackware installation does not require a floppy disc. There are 2 bootable CD's included with the install. The floppy requirement you read about is not so much a requirement, as it is a workaround for people that are unable to boot from CD.

1) Ensure your BIOS boot order first tries a CD/DVD ROM
2) Insert Slackware Disk 1 into your CD/DVD drive
3) Start/Reboot your computer
4) Enjoy the Slackware setup.

Oh man I didnt think (and still dont) that gentoo is a 'mainstream' distribution

It's VERY configurable and can be 'molded' to work pretty well good on almost any system. The only thing is that i'ts gonna take ALOT of your time :study: :study:

Oh and besides that most of the linux distibutions can be installed over the net if you like (and have the bandwidth).

Good luck finding the right one, and let us know what you pick!?
