New Installation 11.0, on older TP560x

I am trying to install Slack 11 on a...

IBM Thinkpad 560x
4gb hdd
96mb
Panasonic KXL-D740 (4x PCMCIA CDROM)
Built in Floppy controller w/ floppy drive

I have the boot.i install.1 install.2 pcmcia.dsk ready and working and am able to load all disks and get to root. However I cannot find the KXL-D740 anywhere .

Keep im mind this is a full Linux install no windows, and is my first time with linux. So any help would be seriously appreciated...

I do not have the ability to do a net install or access atm to a usb flash card.

I do have access to a usb 1.1 cdrom drive but again setup will not find that drive either.

Also with a 4gb dedicated linux system what would the best partioning types/sizes be under cfdisk?

edit: I should also add that the system worked fine under win98se but I would like to learn a bit about linux with this box

Linus says swap should be twice RAM, so 256MB should be fine. I would create a small boot partition, say 20MB and format it ext2 when you get that far. (This is certainly not required for a disk this size, or with the current LILO, but it has helped save me from my own stupidity from time to time.) Make the rest a single root partition.

<Alt-F4> is your friend. It should tell you about what was found when you did "pcmcia", etc. <Alt-F1> will get you back to the setup screen.

Acording to <http://zurich.ai.mit.edu/hypermail/thinkpad/1998-06/0179.html>, the PCMCIA card should be a Qlogic, which has been supported in the kernel for a very long time (and very unlikely the patch mentioned there is needed any more.) It is quite possible that setup will not be smart enough to find this on it's own. You may need to 'mount -t iso9660 /dev/sr0 /var/log/mnt' or tell setup to use /dev/sr0 [is that an option now?]
