Hi,

I was being sarcastic about the query for the 'whereis ip' as ifconfig is installed. And sure 'ip' is likely but not always.

Ok the problem was a bad kernel flag was set.
The solution recompile the kernel,
and disable "CONFIG_PCI_MSI".

This did the trick on my nic.
All is working fine now.
