MySQL 4.0.22 w/ PHP 4.3.11

I just installed PHP 4.3.11 and then MySQL 4.0.22. When using phpMyAdmin I get this error:

cannot load mysql extension;
please check PHP configuration

How can I fix this?

A quick search would answer: in php.ini file remove the ; (it's a comment) in the line that says extension=mysql.so
