Missing GUI

I just installed slackware 10 on my cpu but I can't enter the gui I picked as default, gnome. I can only use command line prompt after i log in as root. I'm a newbie to linux and don't know what to do. I know I have to edit the inittab but I don't know what command to use. Also I am using Lilo to dualboot Win XP but Win XP won't boot, if someone could tell how to config the lilo boot I would appreciate it. I used the slackware 10 installation CD to change the active partition from slack to win and it boots find. If i was in a gui, i could prob. figure out how to edit it.

If you installed Pine, you will have Pico. So type (as root) pico /etc/inittab to edit inittab. To start X type in startx - if you don't get Gnome first go, drop out of X and type in xwmconfig and choose Gnome as default. If you have no Pico, you will need to use vi (vi /etc/inittab).

I tried all your suggestions earlier but all I get in a blank screen. I even tried switching to KDE but my screen just goes blank.

Did you configure your video card? As root, type in xorgconfig and answer all the questions, then do startx again.
