Laptop install

I finally got around to installing Slackware_64 13.37 on my laptop.

The laptop is a Dell XPS L702X
Intel i7 2670qm
6gb RAM
Intel graphics adapter (not sure of the model number) and a
NVIDIA GeForce GT550M, with optimus
2-500gb hard drives (1 for Windows 7, 1 for Slackware)

I did a full install minus KDE - I prefer XFCE, I used all the defaults along the way. The install went fine, no errors, install completed. I reboot, select Slackware, everything seems to load - no error messages that I could see. But instead of a login screen all I get is a blank screen and that's as far as it goes.

Any ideas on what I should change during the installation process?

Try adding i915.modset=0 to the boot command line and/or lilo.conf 'append ='.

I have an HP dv7t laptop with a lot of these: Intel Corporation 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset
and one of these: nVidia Corporation G98M [GeForce G105M] (rev a2)
driven by this tainted but very good driver: NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-285.05.09.

Cheers,

I always use wicd and the wicd-gtk interface with XFCE as it's lighter than Gnome network manager.
