Kernel 3.7.2

I'm aware that slackware tries to be/is a incredibly stable distro however because some of my hardware only works with 3.7 I need to use the latest stable version of the kernel.

Is there anyway of installing 3.7.2 from the get-go? I was mainly a gentoo user for the last 6 years and was spoiled by just emerging sources and then cd /usr/src/linux make menuconfig and obviously go from there.

Main reason for leaving gentoo, compilation times, performance is honestly the same as ubuntu even on a system76 or hardware that just works with linux or said to anyway(without external modules).

Boot speed wasn't an issue and I believe slack will boot just as fast as gentoo, arch, and ubuntu and hopefully still use openRC.

Plus I got school coming up in a few month and I can't waste time fixing ebuilds and portage errors.

Gentoo is turning more or less into a server-distro but that's just how I've been seeing it as of late and how it's going over at gentoo.

Slackware -current uses currently the 3.7.1 kernel, so you can either get the kernel packages from that or you just upgrade your system to -current.
Alternatively you can of course just grab the 3.7 source from www.kernel.org and compile it manually.

Ah okay, I was pretty much going by this (we're using the long term supported 3.2.29 kernel for this release)
I've never used slack so this may be fun, bored to death with gentoo after 6 years and not really learning anything new, day to day it feels like ubuntu except using emerge.

And this is still true. Slackware 14, the last release version, uses kernel 3.2.29. Slackware -current is the development version, which at this point uses 3.7.1.

Okay thanks, just change the mirrors to current or testing?
I may have to go with testing because of hardware though.

There is no testing version. Just change the mirror in /etc/slackpkg/mirrors to one of the -current mirrors.
When you update a -current system do it always in this order:
Code:

slackpkg update
slackpkg install-new
slackpkg upgrade-all
slackpkg clean-system
