I am trying to communicate with my XP PC but without success. First the ethernet card was not detected. I then inserted

in the rc.modules file. I could then ping BUT NOT always successful.

lsmod reveals e100.

I have done this type of installation already on another PC succesfully, but with a different onboard ethernet card.

Any advise.

Hi,

Is there a reason to be using 11? Slackware 12.2 would support your hardware out of the box. You will need to use the 'eepro100'.

We have standardized on Slackware 11 until further notice. But a good point made by you.

Out of desperation I replaced the ethernet cable and everythings works fine.

I'm reminded of an old sign I have posted above the door in my computer room:

Sometimes, with all the technology we have available to us, we forget the simple things. Like: ethernet cables fail.

I remember years ago (just after the 386 proc came out), and the sound didn't work. I spent HOURS trying all sorts of 'fixes' with the sound card manufacturer, the computer manufacturer, and the place that sold it. Nothing worked.

My three-year old came by, looked at what I was doing, and asked me why wasn't the speaker cable plugged in....
