Installing Slack from Scratch
Hello, I was wondering if there is a method for installing Slackware from scratch, much in the way of Gentoo or Linux From Scratch itself.
Have a nice day |
what, a clean install? download the CDs, burn them off, and boot to the first one...
(only the first and second CDs are required for a full install...) http://slackware.com/getslack/ |
Yes, I do have the CD's and I'm planning in buy them to supoprt, but, other than that, I will like to have slackware completed optimized for my computer, just in the same way as gentoo, you and meny other will say, why not go with gentoo? but I do love slack and I feel like I want to experiment a little with it

What you can do is install slackware and then rebuild it.
Useing Slackbuild scripts located in src dir of any ftp/http that host slackware. or buy a cd set and the sources are on cd 3 & 4 Google Keyword searches Slackbuild Scripts i686 optimization on slackware Prelinking on slackware Trimming the linux kernel And on linuxpackages Slackdeptrack Slackdeptrack gives you a brief summary of the most important package dependencies for your Slackware Linux system. Dependencies are calculated based on /var/log/packages contents. Slackdeptrack creates plain text, HTML, XML, and dot (graphviz) output. *run preferably as root * SlackBuilds This is the support files required to use the build scripts listed in the Build area. It contains a global configuration file and some support documents. This version fixes some minor things and adds a few more checks and functions. It does not change the layout of the actual build scripts. See the Changelog for a list of changes and for a list of those that helped with it. So here ya go hoped i helped ya out a little. |
Thank you my friend, for sure you helped, and not just a little, but a lot, I'll look into it. I want to have a Slackware system build for me, just like gentoo, but the thing is that I am an Slacker :), I even bought the subscription.
Anyways, thanks a lot for your answer, I'll look into all those packages/scripts that you mentioned, thank a lot, have a nice day. |
Slackware From Scratch
Hi everybody,
If you have downloaded or purchaesd the Slackware set of all four discs, you will find the source tarballs on discs three and four within the a-x directories. Uisng these and the live cd - disc 2 or a basic Slackware installation on a seperate partition, you can build whatever Slackware system you want to, in the same way as a Linux Ffrom Scratch system. Hope that helps. Charles. |
