Installation from CD fail

Hey.

When I try to install slackware everything works fine, it accepts my partition, finds the cd-drive etc. But when the installation begins it can, infact install a few files, but when they're done the installation says there has been a fatal error and it can't install file X, when I press OK it says another file can't be installed...

Then I just ctrl + alt + del and reboot the computer, so is there any solotion for this, I can't find anything wrong with my CDs. Oh, and by the way, why are there 2 CDs with slackware on them? I've only been using one so far.

I use slackware 10.

On the second CD there is kde and kdei.

Have you checked the md5sum of the iso-image you've downloaded?

Eh, well. I don't know, I dont still have the ISOs since it was about a half a year ago since I burned them. I don't know what could be wrong, the cds do not have any scratches on them at all. Maybe I should just download the latest version of slackware and try, but I do not have any CDs left. What do you suggest?

Download the latest version and buy some new CDs ;)

No, as far as I know there is also the possibility to install slackware over network with a bootdisk, though I don't really know how it works. I think it is described either on the page or in slackbook.

To verify md5sum you can as well create an image from your cds and check it with that file.

I suggest that you download the newest ISOs for Slackware 11.0 or buy them from the Slackware store. When you have your new downloaded CDs verify your md5 sums. Slackware 11.0 is up to date.
If your new CDs fail you may have a hardware issue on your computer, I suggest that you inventory the hardware on your computer and verify that your components are Linux compliant.
Good luck.:D

Failed during installation

I am having the same problem.

A few weeks ago I decided to try Slackware 10.2 and downloaded the 4 CDs. When I tried to install them I got through the setup but got error messages during installation. I tried a few times and gave up.

Later I downloaded and burned the Ubuntu CD. When I tried to install it, it failed as well.

I have a Plextor DVD burner and a generic DVD reader, both are IDE. The Ubuntu installation failed with the burner, but worked with just the generic reader.

So I tried Slack again with the reader this time, and it still failed.

This week I downloaded the 6 CDs for 11.0 and burned them. However, I am getting the same failures during installation as when I tried 10.2.

While it is possible that I have a bad CD, it is unlikely since it has happened with 2 versions of Slackware but worked with Ubuntu.

Is there something that I should do differently during installation? If it makes a difference, I chose the sata.i kernel.
Thx

Download the Slackware DVD ISO.
Use the included files to make bootable USB pen drive.
Copy files in ISO to a FAT32 / Linux Partition.
Boot to USB Drive.
Install...

Well I don't have a USB drive.

I am downloading the DVD ISO and will try and burn it. Unfortunately I have not been able to burn a DVD ISO with Ubuntu for some reason. I can burn a CD with no problem.

Does your machine work with some other OS? It sounds like a memory problem.

jdbj 10-25-2006 09:48 PM

I have 1 GB of RAM, AMD 64 3200+, 160 GB hard drive & 80 GB hard drive.
I have been running Windows XP for a long time on the 80 GB hard drive.
I have successfully installed and run Mepis 3.4.3, Fedora Core 5, Suse 10.1, and Ubuntu 6.06 on my 160 GB hard drive. Currently I am running Windows and Ubuntu with a 1 GB swap file. When I was running FC5 I was able to burn a DVD, for some reason I can't with Ubuntu.

Well I fixed my problem. I burned some new CDs on my laptop using a CD burner, vs using the DVD burner on my desktop, and I was able to install Slackware. Not sure why but it worked.

So now I have Slack and my adventure is about to begin. You will most likely here from me again.
