Can I install essential basic packages from this first disk and then connect to network to download and install further packages?
(Second question) Also Can I use slpkg or slapt-get to download and install only some packages (with their dependencies), rather than full Slackaware, after installing basic packages from first install disk?
I have already mentioned in my question that after installing from CD1, I want to add further packages using package manager only (which will download packages specified by me and install them).

You will need networking. My CD image contains n directory (for networking) but is broken: size shows ~ 950 MiB. I can't verify does CD 1 contains n directory.

I think I should only need ifconfig and dhcpcd/dhclient to connect to internet. Rest I can download and install.
You may try. Hope no shared library will be needed (from l). I have some crazy CD1: a ap f l n tcl y.
If these are there, I should be able to get connected to internet. I can then download slpkg ( https://dslackw.gitlab.io/slpkg/ ), which can then be used to download and install XFCE (with its dependencies).
Do you think this will work?

Here is content of CD1 Slackware 14.2 https://ftp.slackware.pl/pub/slackwa...all-d1.iso.txt. So there are extra a ap f e n set of packages. No packages of l set. Just install and let hope none of ifconfig or dhcp client require shared library from l. f stands for FAQ-s, e for emacs - I don't think these are of importance at beginning. Most FAQ-s are completely outdated. Maybe someone here would shows us shared libraries required by ifconfig and dhcp. I have only -current - not much of use. But maybe you consider installing -current with AlienBob LiveSlack? Why to bother at all with 14.2? LiveSlack is self-contained almost Slackware compatible. Supposedly this year 15.0 will appear. Install -current with LiveSlack - keep it small, wait - once 15.0 will appear (say Summer this year)- you will make mass update.
Edit: give me hour I will put CD1 on VBox and let you know can you install from CD1. No problems reported. I installed a ap n sets - network is working - now I am doing update with slackpkg. If something will not work - must be hardware issue. Now is bed-time.
Are you limiting your install because you only have one CD medium available to burn? You know, you can create a USB install stick using the ISO image. Just asking in case that's the issue.
Here is the link to the -current iso. There is also the option for a mini install. Perhaps not helpful since you mention 14.2 but just in case.

Ha!! There is obviously no problem having more CDs. I only wanted to find out if it is possible to install Slackware with just first install disk (d1).
Thanks for the link to minimal install iso of Slackware-current. I was not aware of this. It seems a useful official minimal Slackware method.
I burned above iso on a CD and tried installation. It seemed to work perfectly but it asks for CD1 to be put for installing packages. The minimal CD does not have any packages at all. I abandoned installation. I think it was going to install a system without even software-set "a".
Minimal install will not install slackware. Minimal install is basically a net-install so you can use the mirrors via ftp/htp of your desire so you can choose between multiple options. On the other hand live cd xfce does install slackware besides 700mb. You can also put other stuff on minimal iso like modules if you using wireless and things that are in /bonus path post installation.
