Red face Install hangs on joe?

I'm pretty new when it comes to Linux, I've used the inner-workings of Mac OS X Darwin for a while now and I figured I'd give a Linux distro a try. I setup Slackware 11 and it was installing packages just fine, until it came to installing joe (text editor)

It hung for about 20 minutes (the CD drive and hard drive lights are still blinking and lighting up) and I then ctrl-z'd out to see if I could do anything. Now it won't even let me back into setup using fg. Here are my processes:

sh
setup
slackinstall
slackinstall
installpkg
tar-1.13
gzip
ps

What can I do? Thanks

I've seen these symptoms before. The surface of the CD disk I was trying to read from had an imperfection on it and confused the laser, kind of like a 33 rpm album record needle skipping. You problem might be similar.

Interestingly, I ejected the CD and re-inserted it, giving me an error message about reading the joe package, but went on its merry way installing everything else. I guess that's my temporary solution

Hi,

First, did you do a md5sum check on the iso that you downloaded?

During the install you could switch to another console to find out what is going on via the cli.

Yes, that's the first thing I did once I finished downloading it via BitTorrent. Perhaps I should have burned it slower?
