I Need Help

Every time I try and install Slackware on my computer it presents me with and error after the boot disk has finished loading.

"kmod: failed to exec /sbin/modprobe -s -k block-major-2, errno = 2"

Then, after inserting the root disk, like the dialog says, it states

the same error and prompts for me to press enter again. After that,

it displays "kernel panic", along with some other things. What's

happening? Could this be due to the fact that I am using a USB Floppy

drive? Please help.

Thanks,

Hello there :)
Your post title is not intuitive, and people may not bother checking it out with such a title.
Let's see here.. Need some more information perhaps.
Are you trying to install Slackware 11.0 ? Which kernel are you booting?
I'm not sure right off what errno=2 signifies, but it doesn't look helpful for you.. Block major 2 is the floppy device map, so I'll take a guess that the kernel is not finding what module it thinks it wants in order to use the USB floppy device, leaving it with nowhere to go from there..
What is that anyways, an actual floppy drive?
If you have the CD's or DVD, it would likely be much easier, though there is probably a way to use the USB thing. But it sure looks like the drive you are using is causing the problem; the kernel can't seem to find it to continue the install/boot from, so it panics.

I can't help with your error but i will say i installed Slackware last night with the DVD ISO i downloaded from their website. Installed Lilo to the MBR and it worked great! I do not have a floppy so i was unable to make a boot disk which made me nervous since im dual booting XP and Slackware but all worked great and XP shows up in Lilo just fine. Hope this is of some help if nothing more than a suggestion

Do you have any other devices from where you could boot from or access command line?
