I'm not sure what to do - Slack won't start up
Alright, I installed slack, and now I reboot and it starts up the command prompt, everything is configured, so I am not sure what to do now. I tried 'startkde' but that didn't work because I could not connect to the x server. I'm not sure what to do.
Any suggestions? |
Try "startx"
If that doesnt work use pkgtool and install a default window manager (kde, gnome.wm, etc) :Pengy: |
Hmmm, that didn't work. This is my first time with Slackware. Any other suggestions?

OK A couple of questions:
What version did you install ? What type of install did you do? (full, newbie,?) |
I am trying to reinstall Slack now. I'm using 10.0, and I am doing a full install.

Hmm.....
Please provide some details regarding the system you installed to (hardware, etc.) I didn't know you had to pay to contact a member's im address but I could be wrong. Mods??? Whatever the case, pardoja2002@yahoo.com is my im handle. |
Okay the problem is :
EE VGA: Driver can't support depth 24 EE Screen found, but none have a usable configurations. Any suggestions on how to fix this? |
What do you mean by IM? Yahoo Instant Messenger?

OK, get all the info you can find on your monitor, video card, etc.
have it handy and as root type: xorgconfig This will ask you questions regarding hardware etc, and create a file for X to initialize from. Just follow the prompts and everything should work. |

ahh okay. I think I am close to figuring it out. I went through xorgconfig, saved it. Now when I try startx I get :
Fatal server error could not open default cursor font 'cursor' |
OK, try this:
type (as root) pkgtool, go to the "installation scripts to run again " part, select the fontconfig option and then reboot. And try again.:Pengy: |
