I'm definitely going to look into that. Many thanks for your patience with me.

can somebody point out to me a useful documentation how to use elilo (and/or grub v2) for a Slackware-current install ? which one is more relevant these days ?
i am going to install a high-powered workstation on brandnew hardware in the coming days and need beforehand to refresh my knowledge about more modern boot procedures after having relied on venerable lilo (and grub v1) for over 30y. i need for now a simple EFI boot solution, just to get that new machine running.

I haven't run current myself as I prefer stable which is less of a "moving target and beta version", but my impression is that grub2 now is the default boatloader in current and will become the default bootloader in an upcoming 15.1.
On my Slackware 15.0 systems I prefer good old LILO, but for those systems which require UEFI boot I have installed a newer version of syslinux (version 6.03) and use its extlinux to load my huge kernel.
As Slackware current is kind of a moving target you should not expect all documentation to keep track of its state. If you instead choose to install stable Slackware 15.0 the default installer will suggest elilo on an UEFI only system and you might have more hope to find documentation for that. However, elilo is kind of abandonware and I get the impression that it doesnt support all modern systems today. On the other hand, also syslinux is kind of abandonware.
regards Henrik

thank you, henca, for your kind and informative feedback - and how strange that LQ doesn't seem to send me anymore email messages for such inputs (your's and others' previously) although i set Notification Type to : 'Instant email notification' ? is there a way to change that ?
now, back to our topic, yes, my new hardware is pretty modern, a Supermicro X13SRA-TF which i shall hold in my hand in two days. because this MB, and also the CPU (Xeon W5-2455X) and other pieces of hardware are all newer generation i prefer to go the safe(r) route with Current (although i happily run a dozen other machines under v15). i actually would also prefer to go with grub2, it's anyway the future boodloader as you say.
perhaps i should look into another thread about Slackware/UEFI/grub2 on LQ instead of abusing this thread here...?
anyway, my question was about documentation and advice about UEFI for the Slackware-Current scenario though that may be still a too early wish for now.

I ran into a problem with elilo when I installed -current on this laptop. I documented it here and it may help. Symptoms are elilo doesn't install during setup and doesn't run after either.
To fix it, boot from your installation medium. Copy the entirety of source/a/elilo/ somewhere you can run it, and execute the SlackBuild script. Use installpkg to install /tmp/elilo-3.16.txz then run eliloconfig. It will fuss at you, but it's all good. Do what it says then run eliloconfig again. Make the appropriate edits to /etc/fstab.
There is also documentation on the installed system at /usr/share/doc/elilo-3.16/ if you want to tweak and adjust elilo to your liking.
