How to halt or back out of an installation?
How does one halt or back out of an installation?
|
I mean what is the shutdown command that will work during the installation (which logged me in as root)?
|
There is none. After logging as root you can either halt or reboot.

If there is no 'cancel' button, just switch off the computer & it will put a stop to everything, but, if you have reformatted your disk, your previous files/distro/OS will be gone!
If the new system is installed, then that is your new system, but you can re install another distro in its place if you want to. |
Didier and fatmac, many thanks.
This is a dual boot with Win7. Almost the first thing the install disk told me is that I must first have at least 2 Linux partitions prepared, before I run setup. So I wanted to stop the installation in order to get into Windows (which is installed) to set up the partitions. Didier, after reading your reply, I said "halt," which took effect. I am guessing that I should have said "reboot." So I then turned off the computer, as fatmac suggested and am now able to get into Windows. |
You can Ctrl+C to get out of the installer and then run whatever commands you may need to do, whether that's halt or fdisk.

Have a read here:
http://docs.slackware.com/slackware:install You can set up your partitions as part of the install process if you like. |
How to halt or back out of an installation
i tried to install nvidia drivers after fresh installation. every time i install and reboot i get error and i need to format every time. can u people help me how to install the correct driver for it. or Nvidia Quadro Fx3500 does not support linux?
thanks in advance, Sanjay.D |
First: if you reformat every time you run into an issue, you will not learn. Stop reformatting, sit down, read, think.
Read: go to the Nvidia driver download site (https://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us), check what driver is supporting the Quadro FX 3500 and you'll end up at https://www.nvidia.com/Download/driv...px/73666/en-us which is the 334.21 version from 2014. Apparently newer drivers are no longer supporting your card. Note, if you want to un-install a Nvidia driver you can, but afterwards you need to re-install Slackware's mesa and xorg-server packages because Nvidia overwrites some of their libraries. |
