help!slackware 12.1 doesnt recognize my usb hardrive?


im trying to install to a usb hd,but slackware doesn't recognize the drive.
is there a command i have to type at the start screen to initialize usb support?

USB is supported - maybe your disk needs more time to settle .
Try running
Code:
rescan-scsi-bus
when you land at the installer's prompt and see if that gets the disk recognized.

Angry kernel panic!

after the install i booted to slack,and got this message;
vfs:cannot open root device"811"or unknown block(8,17)
then it said something about mounting my 1st hd,then;
kernel panic=not syncing:vfs:unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(8,17)
so now what do i do????

forgot to mention

i should probably mention that im trying to install to a usb hd.
ialso have ubuntu and windows installed on my laptop hd.
