GPM not working on 10.2

I'm currently distro-floating (was on Slack 10.1 with Dropline Gnome 2.10.2) and now I'm trying to go back to Slack.

Unfortunately, when I installed the system, GPM just doesn't seem to work at all. I'm on a Fujitsu Lifebook S Series (I think it's an S2020, but it's been so long since I've bothered looking that I don't remember). Not even the fingerpad works. It isn't hotplugging my USB mouse, either.

Just to clarify: the mouse does not work in the console or in X (Window Maker).

How should I diagnose this problem?

(on an unrelated note, Linux recently stopped DHCPing with my router, so it will be harder to drag information from Linux back to Windows and post it online)

Okay, for the time being, what I've done is reinstalled Slackware, this time telling it to use the bareacpi.i (from the 2.4.x series) instead of the testing 2.6.13 kernel, and that seems to have solved both of my problems, for now.
