Full Installation?

how do most of you people install slack? normally i do a custom and weed through the 1000's of packages to install and select the ones i recognize/need. i have gotten a laptop that i will put slack on and i am thinking about just doing a full installation and install everything. anything bad with that besides space?

so i was going to dual boot slack with win xp but i am thinking about adding another partition so i can install windows vista beta to play with but that would be a tri-boot. is that even possible??

I usually do a full install and slowly remove the stuff I don't need.

As for tri-booting, sure it's possible. there's a guy somewhere (Using Grub though) who is/was booting over 100 OSs on his computer.

Hi,

I generally use the tag for install. You could just do a full then use pkgtool to remove the packages you don't use or need.

As for the multiple booting, yes. You can use lilo to boot as many as you want. I've nested lilo for several installations across a system. You can write to the superblock and do the nest rather easy.

Sure your initial lilo will be on the boot drive with the stanza(s) pointing to the boot choice.

My one question, Why vista? $$$$$ performance gain for BillyG.

BTW, if you want to trim the install size then look at drkstr's thread.

I always go for a full install without KDE.
I install later the latest KDE version from source (unless the given version on the CD is the latest, i.e. when there is a new Slackware release)

well thanks for the tips everyone. and yes i was going to install vista on a partition maybe, im surely not paying for it though. just wondering if they even improved anything. in a couple of years ms with push for vista only i bet and programs will stop offering support for xp. in that time i will have to decide weather to upgrade to vista or maybe go all linux. only reason i have windows now is for gaming. but i dont play games any more soooo...
