Following 4MB Laptop HOWTO - But how do I get an IP with PCMCIA network card (FA411)?

I have an old laptop that I want to stick Slackware on. I've got the following from Slackware-7.0

As pcmcia.dsk.README states:

run # pcmcia and follow the on screen instructions.

If I run ifconfig, I still only have a loopback device. What do I need to do after running PCMCIA, so that I can start a network install?

As I said, it's a Netgear FA411, thanks for any help

Usually, running ifconfig will just show interfaces that are up. Try ifconfig eth0. That should show info for that interface, if it is available (otherwise, you will get a device not found error). Then use the command to enter an IP addy, netmask, etc: ifconfig eth0 netmask broadcast , for example.
