does aaa_base package change over versions?

Dear Sirs,
I am currently running Slackware 9.0 on my PC and would like to know if there is a best way to upgrade to Slackware 9.1 using the official CDROM's and upgrading each set seperately (i.e. without using swaret).

In particular, I am concerned about the status of the aaa_base package in 9.0 and whether it changes from version 9.0 to 9.1.

Will a simple upgradepkg * of the "a" disk set overwrite the aaa_package or will it stay the same (original mail messages and all)?

Thank you so much in advance for your kind answers.

P.S. how does a manual upgrade using the CD sets upgrade the kernel from 2.4.20 to 2.4.24?

Thanks,
Rich

There's probably not much difference in the aaa_base since it basically just creates the directories. there should be a document 'UPGRADE' on the CD that will gie detailed instructions on how to upgrade safely. You may be able to just upgrade the kernel and modules if you are just wanting the extra security.
