Console mouse problems and question about my domain
Question #1: My console mouse doesn't work quite right. It works fine in Xorg, but when I drop to a console and attempt to move it around (in order to select something ,for example), it strays to the top right hand corner and stays there, and in addition whenever I move the mouse around enough, strange things happen to my command line, unpredictable things that I havn't been able to isolate and figure out. Why is it doing this?
Question #2: I had no idea what to do when I reached the part about naming my computer as I had never been asked this question durring a fedora core 2 install, and google didn't turn up anything, so I just named it "romero" and when it asked for my domain, I just put in "alexmax.net". However, I was talking to someone else, and they said that unless I am actually ON a domain, I should simply put localhost for my name and localdomain for my domain, or else it would just create extra work for the computer. Two subquerys to this question. First of all, is what this guy saying have any truth to it, and if so, how do I change it back to localhost.localdomain? Or can I just leave the name "romero" and change the domain back to localdomain.
Thanks in advance, "Has this been asked" turned up a similar problem to question #1, but in that case it only messed up in Xorg and not in the console.
EDIT: Whoops, I accidently posted this in Slackware installation. Would a mod be so kind as to move this for me? Sorry. :/

I have the same problem sometimes. AFAIK, it goes away eventually. Try changing your GPM startup line to use a different protocol.
I also had that trouble when I set up my scroll mouse for X
(when both X and console thought the protocol was ps/2, things were both hunky and dory)
When I changed my gpm command line
to use -t imps2 instead of -t ps2,
everything was copacetic again
Also had the strange problem with xorg and gpm and changing the protocol also seemed to work fine for me.
The quickest way to change your hostname and domain in slackware would probably with 'netconfig' although
not really sure about the hostname and domain configuration creating any more work for the system though.
You can leave your hostname and domain name the way they are, it won't cause more work. Where it causes trouble is when you name your domain something like "google.com". It can give you some issues trying to get to the real "google.com". I don't see a problem using alexmax.net, as there is nothing there to confuse your computer. If you want to change them, though, everyone is right, just run "netconfig" again.
On the first issue, I had a similar problem. I solved it by "chmod -x /etc/rc.d/rc.gpm" and never using my mouse from the command line. A less than elegant solution.
