Cannot install lilo from distribution DVD

I am having problems installing LILO.
It seems that slackware now counts disks from sdf instead of sda.
I have tried setting up lilo using sdf for my new linux distibution (slackware on sda) and sdg for my old linux distribution (on sdb).
However, when slackware tries to write lilo to the MBR it complains that /proc/partitions does not match /dev.
It says /dev/sdi does not match /dev/sdi and /dev/sdi1 does not match /dev/sdi1 (they look the same to me).
Does anyone have any ideas on how I can fix this please ?
Thanks.

I have installed Slackware 13.37 on two computers in the past few weeks and have not observed any unusual behavior in naming partitions.

I gather you are attempting to use Slackware's "Expert Install." If not, I'd suggest trying that.

Otherwise, please give us some more information, such as the output of "fdisk -l" and where (MBR, etc.) you are trying to place LILO.

I have fixed the problem.
I removed my fourth disk (a windows backup disk) and lilo installed O.K. (yes, I was using expert install).
I then replaced my fourth disk and it still works.
But why does slackware now count its disks from sdf instead of sda ?

Hi,

What does 'fdisk -l' show?
