helps somewhat thanks.
I'm having a freeze on exit from kde 3.3 as root which I heard is permission related now.
I need to learn the chmod commands and read up on docs.

cheers terror!

Hi,

At least now I understand why when as root I can play and browse an Audio CD but if I click on the device CD-ROM I can a Mount error due to Bad type. Because you don't mount Audio CD's.

All I have to do is get it so that I can play it from User without getting a "Only root can mount device" error!

Not thats theres much point seeing as nothing comes out of my speakers!!

Try adding your user to the "audio" and/or "cdrom" groups.

For no sound when playing an audio CD, check the configuration of the audio player.

For no sound on the whole, check your configuration generally.

I have no sound on the whole, but I have this question running on the Newbie thread so I won't go on about it here.

My issue is more along the lines of the original post. I can mount data CD's as root (and now thanks to this thread as user) and I can 'Play' Audio CD's...well it finds it and the track runs for the appropriate time even if no sound comes out..as root, but as user Konqueror's Audio CD Browser doesn't find the CD (The cog thing just spins for ages with no error message).

I have added a user to the CD-ROM, Audio, and Video groups, but still no luck.
