12.0 install, without cd/floppy-drive

This is my first post.

I wanna install the new Slack on my notebook. Cd-drive broken, floppy non-exsisting. I got a windows partition and a earlier slack with older kernel. What would the smartest process for me, if i wanna install a clean new 12.0 with the newest kernel? Keeping Windows isn't something i need, the trouble (as I see) is just the boot issue. Since (I think) my bios doesn't support usb boot up(Acer Travelmate 8104WLMi-serie Notebook).

Any suggestion is would help

You could take the drive out, install on another notebook and re-insert the drive. I never install from CD/DVD, I have a separate GRUB partition from where I install newer Slackware releases. It's faster and less error-prone that way.

Why don't you check the BIOS and see if it won't boot off USB.

I wasn't joking . You could take the hard drive out, install on another notebook and then put it back. This is Slackware we're talking about, so all hardware is detected during boot, no fixed settings at all (except Xorg).

Another possibility is putting the hard drive in an external USB enclosure and in the case of an empty drive installing GRUB, from where you can install Slackware. I have used both methods repeatedly and they work fine. Good luck!

Hi,

You could use the 'SlackwareŽ12_Janux_NET_NoBurn_Install' LQ post.

As stated by others you could remove the drive and use a usb enclosure. Or use a IDE adapter to interface to another computer IDE (channel) cable to install.

I just wanted to say thanks for the good replies
I'm going for PXE-solution, simply because it looks the easiest for me.
(Would be a lie to say I love hardware
