Rock Pi S - Serial connection not working


When using USB to TTL cable to connect with my Rock Pi S, according the README, then I get no signal and can't connect (over USB).

I tested this with the currently available kernel versions 4.4.236 and 5.9.12 and got the same result for both.

That's no hardware issue, since with a different distribution (with kernel 4.4.243) it works fine.
