Last update on current broke vim cut and past trough mouse

Last update on current made it impossible to do cut and paste with mouse in vim (both in console/gpm and from Xterm).
I've seen this also on Intel but over there it was sufficient to remove /usr/shar/vim/vimrc and empty ~/.viminfo and it would work again ... here on arm I have not found a workaround.

For the moment I'm using elvis (because of the lock issue on nvi).

The latest Vim package has literally just finished building, and I can't see any problems with copy paste in gpm within the console on my Orange Pi.
Perhaps it's the latest version that's solved the problem. The updates will be out this week.

The changelog is still @ a dull 16'th March ):
I'm impatient to see if vim will work properly or if there's some other mystery to be unfolded.

I know! These ARM 32bit machines need to get faster. I'm going to wire a the Turbo button from a 386 onto the GPIO pins.
Does gpm work now?

It has partially resumed:
I still need to empty or preferably remove ~/.viminfo
On the text console I'm unable to copy from one virtual terminal and past into another with where I'm editing a file with vim.
Form X I can copy from one xterm and paste into another where I'm editing with vim.
There is also another thing which vim was not doing before: if I select text with mouse from the file I'm editing, the cursor will also move to where I'm selecting the text ... but this may be just a different default setting kicking in.

I did another update today and it's mostly ok if I remove ~/.viminfo ... failing to do so can result in pasting some stray stuff.
Cut and paste between virtual consoles still does not work (with elvis it still works fine).
I noticed that the mouse gestures have changed: if you select the text with mouse (the blinking cursor changed position to where you select the text) if you them move the mouse to where you want to paste without doing anything else you can then click the center button and paste into there the mouse was pointing (and move the blinking cursor to where you paste).
Previously the mouse selection would not move the blinking text cursor and you were allowed to move the text cursor with the e arrows ... now if you move the text cursor during mouse copy and paste you loose the selected text.
It is also now possible to override and paste even if you are not in insert mode ... if you are not careful you can make a big mess of the file you are editing.
Ok if you paste while not in insert mode and there are commands in the text you are pasting the old version can also do some unexpected things.

I think we are in a bit of trouble here: Elvis does not support Unicode, nvi has the locking issue and vim has all sorts of problems dew to these new features: is there any other option for a text console vi like editor ?

It's not the first time I hear of it but cant find a binary version of it for SlackwareARM.
I might try and build it ... what I really meant is there any other option among the native Slackware packages ?

Not sure if the exact same is happening on arm but this morning, on a Intel box, I was unable to copy some text from the xterm where I was editing a file with vim and paste it in another xterm.
I got frustrated and switched over to elvis (for most of my bash scripts I don't use Unicode anyway) ... and there it worked fine.

There's a workaround for nvi too which should sort out any problems with Unicode.
