I don't think I ever put U-boot on an SD card on the Sheevaplug. The OrangePi, Trimslice and others automatically boot u-boot from SD card if it's present. I don't think that the Sheevaplug will though, otherwise there'd not have been such a concern.

Actually no it wasn't. It was in case I needed to boot the factory OS afterwards, but just ended up keeping it that way.
There was never an option to boot from SD card for Sheevaplug, IIRC - otherwise I'd have done that.
