BeagleBone Black

Any current info on the BeagleBone Black and Slackware. I found a howto which replaces a few boot files from Slackware Arm with those from the Beagle Debian install but its a little old. I wondered if there was any more recent howtos anyone is familiar.

I was placing an order for some electronic parts and the place had the BBB on sale so I grabbed one without checking to see if it was supported or not.

Thanks

I'm following this http://sdf.org/~jstg/texts/slackware...fs_install.txt which says he references the Arch Linux instructions.
I can't get it to boot off the microSD no matter how I try it.

So tonight I downloaded the debian install image and wrote it to the microSD and was able to see it boot so I know I have the SD formatted correctly now. Now I'm going to follow his directions but the opposite and put the Slackware files onto the already formatted sd card.

Success. Booted up to a Slackware prompt. Now I just have to document the steps and I can simply repeat on the eMMC on the BBB

I wrote that up a long time ago. I setup another BeagleBone about 6 months ago and followed those instructions and don't remember running into
any problems. That being said my memory isn't the greatest.

Mine would never boot from the microSD. My guess is maybe you used one that had previously been written with a bootable image so when you mount it and replace files they get put in the right place?

I'm wondering why no official slackware support, seems like an image could be built pretty easily just like the Raspberry Pi one.

The image builder I made might get you going ... if it doesn't tell me and I'll see if I can make it work for the BBB.

Thanks. I did get it running but I'll grab another card and give the image builder a try, scripting out the process would be easier should I ever need to do it again.

The first line here describes why that is:
http://docs.slackware.com/howtos:har...rm:raspberrypi

This device could be a candidate for support by the Community.

The best source of information for any Allwinner Device is probably the Linux sunxi community ... and it's linked on the XZPAD article I wrote.
I'm not sure why but a lot of people are missing "(works on most Axx-based boards)" sitting right next to XZPAD700 on the Slackware ARM start page.
Maybe I should split that into 2 separate articles ... one specific for the XZPAD700 and one for generic AXX devices ?
It's just that there's so much in common that the one stripped from the XZPAD specific stuff would still have a lot in common.

I'm finally getting back to this.

I can't tell which the BBB is sun4i, sun5i or sun7i from the link in your install.

Since my broke the screen on both his tablet and my tablet I have kinda lost intrest in the thing, moreover a lot of devices that were previously supported have gone bust on the linux-sunxi kernel.

In any case I did a bit of reserch and it looks like currently the BBB is not built from Allwinner SOC.
It looks like its a TI AM3358 SOC. I'm not sure if it has allays been like that or if at some point it used to be built from Allwinner SOC.

According to the above URL I don't thing my image builder stands any chance on the BBB ... I'm sorry for making confusion.

You could still use kernel from TI ... not sure about the boot loader (you'll haveto do your own search) and then the Slackware ARM userland should just be fine.
