zipslack on dblspace
 

I have an old laptop, and before I fry everything on it I wanted to try zipslack, but the hard drive is doublespaced or drivespaced whatever it is called. Was wondering if it will run on this drive or do I have to uninstall doublespace. (if it comes to that I just wipe the drive)

I wouldn't have thought it'd be easy. There is a 'program' that lets you use doublespaced drives under Linux (see this tucows page), but I don't know whether you could use it in conjunction with a normal zip-slack. My guess is, that you'd need to first install zipslack somewhere else, install and configure the above program until you're happy that it'll boot from a doublespaced umsdos partition (zipslack doesn't use ext2, it uses umsdos) and then perhaps transfer over to your current doublespaced harddisk.

It seems like quite a bit of hassle. You could, I suppose, make a damn good backup of your stuff, blank your harddisk and put zipslack on, get it working OK with doublespace, then put your backup back onto the disk...and hope that your dos/win setup hasn't gone awry in the process.

THX for the suggestion, but like you said I decided something like that would be a bit of a hassle. But this is what I did do.

I repartitioned the Host drive H:(as windows calls it) to have enough space for the zipslack folder (this was all easily done in windows 95, it had nice tools for this when it came to the doublespace drive) then I moved the /linux folder there

Now I can boot both.


I put this here because I feel that I should share this in case there is someone else out there that wants to do the same thing I did.
