Zip slack a few questions I am up and running under 250 meg on the net :D

Hi all,

I got zip slack going on my buddies old pc.

I'm under 250 meg and surfing the net on it LOL I cannot believe it. zip slack is amazing. I'm thinking of typing out my commands, setup and posting it. This pc is twice as fast as it was, NO JOKE !

As a side note: Pat V needs to put a little line in the how to for zip slack that once you get into Zip slack to setup lilo you type liloconfig at console and go from there. Now that I said it you say sure, I know that...nah believe me you get in and your like "where it my /etc/lilo.conf it's missing!?" LOL that's how stripped down it is.

Any way, I want to get sound on this Yamaha OPL3sa2 onboard audio, can I simply download the OSS drivers and install them on this.

I've got the following packes in on zip-slack:
-misc fonts
-100 dpi fonts
-xorg
-opera webbrowser

So that get's you into X by the way and under 250 meg with internet.

Next question: firewall rules? Can i copy them over from a different pc? How do I set up a firewall on this?

Thank you.

You may run into a lot of missing dependencies if you do this. You'll have a better time digging out the slackware packages for OSS/ALSA and installing them using installpkg and keep installing dependencies until you get it working. That's not going to be nice (I can't remember how stripped down ZipSlack is though).

I would recommend projectfiles.com's rc.firewall available here:
http://projectfiles.com/firewall/. Installing it should be a simple matter of downloading the "non-installer" version, copying it to /etc/rc.d, making it executable and then editing it to suit your setup (normally it's one or two lines of changes at most and sometimes you don't have to do ANYTHING).
