yet another sound problem.

Hi all

First of I would like to say what a great forum you guys/girls have going here, I am very impressed with the manor and help that is provided by members.

Anway i am a newbie (2days old) at slackware/linux been a MS person basically all the time but I am trying to break free.

Spent the last 2 days with the help of the posts in this forum to get my Slackware 8.1 up and running.(everything installed standard)
So far got my CD burner working
Got the nividia drivers installed (wow that was easy no problems there)
Even got my wheel mouse working right.

But my problem is now this dam sound card, no matter what I read or try I seem to be getting lost in my own lack of skills regarding Linux.

Here some information which i see is asked for most offen:

I have been trying to install alsa-driver-0.9.3c I have followed the instruction regarding configuring etc and make install and all seems to have gone ok, but were my problem seems to lie I can'r get the drivers to load or the mod (don't have a clue what I am talking about here)
I tried the modprobe snd-via82xx command and that seems to work (I don't get an errors)

So if some could please explain to me in lamans terms what I have missed or what I need to do that would be great.

Thanks in advance.

Hi all,
I have a similar problem:

I've got on my box 2 Slackwares, one 8.1 for "testing stuff" purpose and one Slackware 9.0 that's actually my principal distribution.
I purchased a Trust Headphone with Microphone integrated.
In Slackware 8.1 I used to load the cmpci module at boot time, and the mic didn't work at all....
Then I found that a good hint was to try the ALSA drivers and I downloaded and installed them as installation docs on ALSA website explains.
I unloaded the cmpci module and loaded the ALSA one, launched alsamixer, activated mic and all was good, the mic worked and I tested it in TeamSpeak.
This was done for "testing" as I stated before.
Then I switched to Slackware 9.0 and did the same as written here up.
I couldn't unload the cmpci module 'cause of the hotplug stuff... but avoided it using the hotplug blacklist for "cmpci".
I Rebooted and the sound was not working as were my intentions.
I tried to load "snd-cmipci" and the other drivers/modules from ALSA (the same procedure I did few hours ago for Slackware 8.1) and nothing went wrong (apparently).
The problem is that since I used the hotplug blacklist seems that the sound card doesn't exists anymore for OS (but still appears in lspci, obviously)... the module loads but doesn't appear in /proc/modules.... neither the ALSA one, nor the old cmpci one.
Any ideas?

Thank in advance.

Ok.... tha's very strange....
after three reboots I can load the ALSA modules.
I will investigate further.

Thanks to all
