XWindows logout problem...

Well I installed slack 9.0 successfully, logged on and started up xwindows. I get done messing around and logout. Upon logout it drops to the console but the text is messed up sitting on top of itself. How do I get to the point of fixing this? I have run into this problem many times and have tried different things when installing but it still just doesnt want to logout or shutdown or do anything from xwindows. I have not run xconfig or whatever the cmd is to configure xwindows (basically I'm using the default xwindows settings).

Any help at all is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for the help

Sorry, from your original post it wasn't
obvious that your machine got hung.

Well, as for the xf86config ... I'd suggest
making a backup-copy of /etc/X11/XF86config
and run xf86config and answer the questions
to the best of your knowledge...

Cheers,
Tink
