Xterm Issues...

In the beginning of my adventures in the slack world i started using DG but few minutes ago i switch over to Fluxbox but i noticed something strange which i never saw before. When i ran the xterm terminal i noticed my current directory wasn't visable to the human eye just the following;

Code:
 bash-2.05b$
Why is that? And how can i correct this problem so i know what directory i am in at any given time?

You need to create a .bashrc file and change your PS1 value for your prompt.

Something like this in the file:

PS1='\u@\h:\w\$ '

export PS1

Would make your prompt look like this:

user@hostname:~$

Read /usr/doc/Linux-HOWTOs/Bash-Prompt-HOWTO. If you didn't install the HOWTO's, go to

http://www.linux.org/docs/ldp/howto/...EX/howtos.html

They are all there. Briefly, you need to set the PS1 environment variable in your .bashrc file. For example the following line appears in mine:

PS1='[\u@\h]:\w\r\n#'

This results in a prompt that looks like this:

[musrum@tux02]:/usr/doc/Linux-HOWTOs
#

That is [username@hostname]:currentdirectory. I add a crlf to the end of my prompt so that I always have the full terminal width to type commands on, and my commands always start at column 1.
