XSnow & KDE. Believe It Or Not, It Will Soon Be That Time Of The Year. :)
Xsnow 1.42 runs in Xfce 4.6.2 and 4.8.x, but I made an interesting (to me) discovery when trying to run it in KDE 4.7.
At first it appears not to work in KDE, but when I went to log out, and what I will call the "first layer" of the desktop was unloaded, for lack of a better term, there was xsnow running underneath. I could only see it for a moment or two, but it appeared to be running just fine. So, the question becomes, is it possible to not load that "first layer"? Or, is it actually the "second layer" on top of the first? Any ideas greatly appreciate. Thanks. :hattip: |
Sounds like plasma desktop doesn't like xsnow. I've had the same problem with apps that have fake transparency. Don't know a way of fixing it though.

xsnow draws on the root screen (not sure if that's the right name), the same as wmsetbg. KDE adds another layer on top of that. Not sure if it's doable.

kde people seems to have closed the "bug" as INVALID https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=219249 |
For 13.37, the default KDE has "snow" in "All Effects" when configuring desktop settings.

As to the "invalid" "bug," typical. I've come to prefer Xfce anyway. I try running KDE every now and then and it only last a few hours or a day or so at the most and it is back to Xfce. I will say Alien Bob has done a nice job with Blue Devil and KDE. They work nicely together. When I need to use Bluetooth I fire up KDE as it never works properly or as easily in Xfce. |

nice screenshots!
Good to see that it is snowing on your desktops! If you want to see the snow at the bottom, go to the settings tab, and set 'lift snow bottom' to 24 or 30 or so.

A new version of xsnow? Just as well, I was beginning to panic.
