xserver automatic screen shutoff

Using slackware current before xorg 1.4 was released, the computer monitor would automatically turn off after 20 minutes. Now it just blanks the screen without actually turning off (no dpms). Before i did not have to make any adjustments to xorg.conf for this to work. So heres the q:
how to get back this feature requireing the least amount of hacking?

put
Code:
Option "DPMS"
in the "Monitor" section of your '/etc/X11/xorg.conf'.
