Xscreensaver daemon not running in an X-Windows session

Hello,

I have installed Slackware 10.2 and KDE 3.5.4 and Gware Gnome 2.12.3. Whenever I attempt to configure the screensaver options through Gnome, I receive the following error message:

Warning: The XScreenSaver daemon doesn't seem to be running on display ":0.0". Launch it now?

If I select yes to this, then it starts up w/o any error messages afterwards. I have not run into this message before, and would like to know how to start this daemon automatically upon starting an X-windows session from my computer. Thanks.

Also, I am logging in as a regular user, and not root.
