xsane/kernel module problems?

I installed X11, Gnome Dropline, compiled a new kernel, everything works perfectly except my scanner. It worked well with the old default slack 10.2 kernel. I have a BenQ Scanner, it's not new hardware, but its pretty good. During the hotplug start of the booting kernel, the scanner is not detected. I type in the termina "xsane" and it gives me the error "xsane: error while loading shared libraries: libsane.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory". What should I do to get my scanner working?

Do you plug it using parallel port or usb? Maybe you forgot some module in your new kernel
