xrandr 1.3 dual head setup matrox g550

Any suggestions gratefully received.
I have just installed Slackware 13.0 in a multi boot system and I cannot make the dual head setup work as it does in all other boots (xinerama mode)
I have tried loading the xorg.conf from other boots but the new xorg will not use it and if I use xrandr it only sees one output from the graphics card (matrox g550)
with mirrored outputs onto the screen.
I have tried to find information on the xorg web site but that is a complete waste of time I have reconfigured xorg.conf file in many different ways following various suggestions found on the web most of which cause the x server to fail to start.
Can anyone point me in the direction of information that could help me solve this conundrum.

I found http://intellinuxgraphics.org/dualhead.html helpful.
Good luck!

Hi Uli
Thanks for the post I have tried these methods
however the result of running xrandr is that only one monitor is found and the display is mirrored on each monitor - (they are older CRTs)
In the newer versions of X
many of the old functions have been deprecated - xinerama is one of them - therefore using the same xorg.conf file that works perfectly on this system
using kubuntu 7.10 and other boots does not work with the newer X system.
Regards
Tony

I know at one point the mga_hal driver was needed to enable dualhead support on some Matrox cards. Does your Xorg log file show that it's loaded?

Are you even sure that the mga driver was updated to support xrandr?
