Thanks, Eric. xwmconfig did the trick (I have to admit I was not familiar with that command, thanks.) I have learned a lot in this thread. And upon investigation, you are again exactly right. The drivers for both card were removed and moved to the etc/rc.d/rc file of the new kernel, which is fine because all of the network stuff I do is from the 2.6 kernel. I mainly use the 2.4 kernel now for testing and learning more.
