xonar dx only plays sound from side surround output

I have just upgraded my box to be more multimedia friendly and one of the upgrades was to improve the sound card. I decided to get the Asus Xonar DX pci-e card.

I have it working but the speakers are not plugged into the front output socket as the xonar dx only plays sound from side surround output.

Will the sound be any better from the front out on my 2.0 speaker system or is the sound being directed out of the side surround out full quality?

Has anyone else this card and this problem?

Any suggestions on how to overcome this discrepency?

I have this sound card and meet such a problem, too. Do you find any solution now? Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

I found a solution: Right-click the volume icon (in GNOME desktop), choose audio settings, and set the hardware profile of the sound card as "Analog Surround 7.1 Output + Analog Stereo Input". However, if the sound card is connected with audio jacks of the front panel, the Front jack in the card's own panel can't work, and the output jack of the front panel is recognized as the Front output of the card.

You should post a question only once in one forum. Please do not post the same question in several forums.

I wrote a post here just in order to let the author of the thread know the solution. If the post is not proper, please delete it.

Thanks Akeke I will see if this works for me on my KDE desktop. I will probably wait until I have installed Slackware64 13.37.

I found that, alsa-utils is the reason why the Front output of the card's panel can't work in Mageia (a fork of Mandriva Linux). Just uninstall alsa-utils, and restart computer, and then the Front output will have sound. Your computer's system is Slackware. I don't know whether the method is effective in Slackware. But you may try it.

Working fine now, didn't need to do anything, I just installed the latest version of Slackware64-current and all was fixed.
