xlockmore vs xscreensaver

I believe it's not the first thread dedicated to such a vital issue, but I'm curious what people use in 2019.

I vote for xscreensaver myself, because it's used by default in xfce, and I never cared about reconfiguring it.

ponce 07-01-2019 04:25 AM

I use both.

montagdude 07-01-2019 09:10 AM

Many people probably use neither (myself included).

I voted xscreensaver myself too.
As the system is my own only, I don't need to "lock" the screen and I like the variety of screen savers xscreensaver offers.
And it's easy to compile myself whenever I'd like a newer version.

xscreensaver with the 'Phosphor' saver. I lock my screen often, normally when walking away from my laptop in the university library to get a drink or something.

cwizardone 07-01-2019 09:53 AM

I voted for xscreensaver, but Xfce now has it own screen saver,

Maybe would be good to add two more options, neither and both :D

xscreensaver with both Matrix screensavers, nice when restoring from suspend or hibernation.

Neither! I use slock. Less visual clutter

linustalman 07-01-2019 02:06 PM

It's a landslide result.

marrowsuck 07-01-2019 03:18 PM

xlockmore user checking in.

I don't use any screensaver or locking feature. My screens timeout at like 10 or 15 minutes of being idle. And right now I don't need to worry about anybody getting on it and fiddling with things (my wife uses the laptop downstairs and we don't have kids yet), so there's no reason for me to lock it (maybe once I have kids). I will occasionally lock it manually if I know we're going to have the nieces or nephews over.

Xscreensaver. I like pretty pictures.

they too, like reinventing the wheel :p

just kidding, Xscreensaver and Xfce power manager have some redundant features, so I guess that's the reason.

chrisretusn 07-02-2019 03:40 AM

I don't use a screen saver.

I use Power Management to switch off my screen.

hitest 07-02-2019 08:17 AM

Xscreensaver.
