xinitrc and xfree86

Hello, I have a problem. whenever i startx, I don't think my XF86config file loads. why? because my mouse wheel never works when I startx. I am running fluxbox on slackware 9.1 with xfree86. Does anyone know how to make xinitrc load xfree? thanks in advance.

Heres my xinitrc file:
#!/bin/sh
#/etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc

#start some defualt clients
gnome-theme-manager
~/silt
#start window manager
fluxbox

You need to add the following line to your /etc/X11/xfree86.conf file uner the InputDevice section for your mouse.
Code:
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"

If XF86Config weren't loaded properly you would
not only not get the scrolling, you wouldn't get
anything ... please re-word your problem. Without
X there'd be no flux.

Cheers,
Tink

Try setting the mouse type properly, too.
For instance if it were set to PS/2 but you
have a IMPS/2 mouse in fact the wheel
won't work even with ZAxisMapping
set properly.

Cheers,
Tink
