XFCE4 Volume Issues
hey
I got bored with KDE so tried my hand with XFCE 4.2 that comes with SW12.
I seem to have run into a bump with the volume mixer. When I go into mixer settings , it doesn't show any device. I don't know what the problem is though, kmix used to run fine.
I have snd-hda-intel configured via alsaconfig. alsamixer allows me to increase / decrease volume.
Also , any idea how I can make the multimedia keys for vol+ and vol- work in xfce ?

You should have(/can add) volme applet on your panel. Clicking
on it should open a window with many options to configure (like alsamixer,
but GUI) .

Do you run alsamixer under the same user account ? (You need to be in audio group)
Can you see /dev/mixer or /dev/sound/mixer ?
Are snd-mixer-oss and snd-pcm-oss kernel modules loaded ?

Hey
audacious is playing any music I like, so is mplayer. Thus, all the modules are loaded.
But I can't see /dev/dsp or /dev/mixer or /dev/sound/mixer (neither as normal user nor as root)
and I am in audio group.
kmix works fine , this is a problem just with xfce4-mixer.

So it may be the problem if xfce4-mixer can handle OSS interface only. Try to manualy load OSS mixer module as root with
Code:
modprobe snd-mixer-oss
and try to reload xfce4-mixer plugin.
OSS kernel modules are normally loaded at startup with /etc/rc.d/rc.alsa script.
